About

Sam E. Valentine is a landscape architect and researcher. Supported by Harvard University and a Fulbright grant, he is conducting research in Brazil and Angola, collaborating with self-built, informal communities to expand knowledge of resident-driven landscape design processes. Prior to his current studies, he received his Master in Landscape Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design. Sam practiced landscape architecture with Richard Burck Associates for a decade, where he designed and managed campus and public-realm projects, including downtown streetscapes and waterfront parklands in Boston and new social landscapes on Georgia Tech’s campus in Atlanta. He is a licensed landscape architect in Massachusetts and Georgia. In 2009, after earning his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia, Sam’s first job placed him in a desk in Olmsted’s old bedroom at Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site (Olmsted NHS) in Brookline, Massachusetts. Sam serves on the Board of Directors for the Friends of Fairsted, where he works to preserve and expand the legacy of Frederick Law Olmsted and the Olmsted firm through support of Olmsted NHS, a unit of the National Park Service.
